I'm not seeing any Time effects in FCPX 10.0.6 but I do see them in Motion 5.0.5. Is there a compatibility issue to be resolved? With no roundtrip to Motion yet, this seems awkward.
Textures also only in Motion
Several of Art Looks are only in Motion such as Charcoal Sketch and Pencil Sketch amongst others.

There were some issues with Time effects in FCP X when BCC8 for Apple development began, but I can check into it again today. With more recent FCP X updates, some issues have been resolved on the Apple side etc. I guess we can assume all FCP X users will (or could) move to FCP X 10.0.6 ? Is there an effect (or effects) in particular from the Time category that you'd be eager to use in FCP X ?

Textures also only in Motion, Several of Art Looks are only in Motion such as Charcoal Sketch and Pencil Sketch amongst others. By design, at this point it's not a 1 to 1 match between Motion and FCP X. While Motion has most of the "raw" BCC effects represented, with FCP X being a new host for BCC, we started with offering what we thought was likely to get the most use (although that's certainly a difficult judgement to make). Some effects you see in BCC for other hosts are to some extent included to provide compatibility with old projects coming forward. In the case of FCP X, old project compatibility (as far as 3rd party effects at least) is not there at all so that's not an issue. But one goal for this beta is to get a sense of what FCP X users are looking for and we expect to add more templates during the beta. That said, any Motion 5 user can create his or her own BCC based templates for FCP X - and of course that process allows for combining multiple BCC effects, adding behaviors and rigs to create auto-animation, link parameters together, publish and arrange parameters in an order that makes sense for a given context etc. In addition to Cartoon Look (which is already there), I'll add templates for Water Color (which is actually a variation on Cartoon Look) and Pencil Sketch and Charcoal Sketch.

Yes, unlike the days of FCP6, FCP7 where a portion of the user base didn't have a motivation for a paid upgrade relative to the new features, I'd proffer that all the free FCPX updates are "mandatory" given the youth of the app. Granted some might be a .0.x behind if they're mid project but the updates have been mission critical features and bug fixes. I think it would be OK to set 10.0.6 as a base compatible threshold.
Probably most useful to me would be Temporal Blur and Velocity Ramp. Personally though, anything that you display in Motion should be in FCPX. Even if only for the simple "marketing" appearance of "more" (perceived value).
I agree but I do view templates/presets as visual jumping off points that demo what is possible. Some possibilities may not be obvious. Also there's a market for editors who aren't that deep into Motion.

Probably most useful to me would be Temporal Blur and Velocity Ramp. I looked into it this morning and it seems that these time effects can work OK with the requirement that in some cases the workflow will be that the source video needs to be set by placing it in an input well for the filter. In other words, in some cases it can't use the segment it is applied to as the source (although it can use the same media through an input well etc.) And this workflow makes sense anyway in cases where you are time remapping in a way that will result in lengthening the source duration. I've posted a zip ; www.borisfxresources.com/BCC8-FCPXpublicBeta/BCC_Time.zipthat contains a "BCC Time" category with Temporal Blur and Velocity Remap if you want to give them a try in FCP X. If you unzip the folder and place it so it is located here ; /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Templates/Effects/ BCC Timethen they will appear in FCP X. I expect these and other templates made during the public beta period will be added to the installer for the final release. Velocity Remap requires specifying the source through an input well - so you can apply the filter to something like the "Grey Scale" generator acting as slug in the timeline since that can be trimmed to arbitrary lengths etc. and then use the input well to pick the source. Temporal Blur is applied directly to the source image.

To that end, I'd suggest that the FCPX version of BCC should continue this tradition by exposing as many effects and parameters to the user as possible. Walter Soyka

I'd suggest that the FCPX version of BCC should continue this tradition by exposing as many effects and parameters to the user as possible. Walter Soyka I hear you, but keep in mind that Final Cut Pro X doesn't support parameter groups, or the contextual enabling / disabling of parameters (features supported by other previous BCC hosts, and features which influenced the way BCC effects have been designed and presented in previous releases ) - and as a result, exposing as many parameters as possible (as you suggest) in FCP X can result in some effects being awkward to use and difficult to navigate - since any published parameters are always displayed with their controls enabled (in a flat list view), even in contexts where many of those parameters may have no effect and so are unnecessary, etc. With that in mind, one approach we've tried to take is to break larger BCC effects down into templates geared toward more specific looks or more specific tasks. Of course, in Motion the BCC effects appear with all parameters exposed. Motion supports param groups and contextual controls, but for now contextual controls are not enabled because they can interfere with creating FCP X templates in some situations. Just my two cents… If you unzip the folder and place it so it is located here ; /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Templates/Effects/BCC Time then they will appear in FCP X. I expect these and other templates made during the public beta period will be added to the installer for the final release.
It is probably obvious to everyone, but just in case… According to the keyboard language selected in your OS, the path change a bit. For example, for French keyboard, the path is : /Bibliothèque/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Modèles/Effects/BCC Time
